2 NIGHTS EXCURSION TO EIKEMO

On this trip you will walk while the horses carry the baggage and equipment. We will stay overnight in a lavvo camp in the mountain. The lavvo has camp beds. We will continue into the mountain on an ancient path where people and their animals have walked for immemorial times. On the mountain farm Åkrastølen we will make a rest before we continue towards Varaskard approximately 800 meters above sea level. On the top of the mountain the view will open up all the way to the glacier Folgefonna. The trip will continue along a mountain ridge, past small lakes, and after many short stops and a lunch break, we will arrive at the lake of Sandvatnet where we will spend the night. Here you will be served dinner and if you have brought your fishing rod you might have trout for supper. We will set yarn in the evening and hopefully we will have fish for breakfast.

Next day after breakfast, we will prepare provisions for the day. You can leave the equipment you don’t need for the day at the camp, and it will be brought back by the pack horse. We will start our walk towards Eikemo.

We will start the trip climbing the mountain of Sandvasshorga, past Bjellandsvatna and if the weather allows us we will cross Avaldsnuten 1245 meters above sea level. Here you will have a fantastic panoramic view. We will then start descending towards Eikemostølen, where a delicious meal will be prepared for us before we start the last part of our trip towards the fjord and the boat ride. A ride in a rib boat which will give us high speed and salt water spray in the face.

The walking distance is altogether around 30 kilometers, but if you are in good shape there should not be any problems. We will use the time we need and not look at the watch all the time.

The guides will be Geir Arne Eikemo and Trygve Øvstebø; experienced people who have walked the mountain all their lives. Contact us for more information about prices and dates.
